The xx’s 2009 Mercury-Prize winning debut album xx cemented the trio (formerly a foursome) as one of the best new indie/electro bands on the scene. Now the group’s producer, Jamie Smith, is prepping his latest project, a 13-track remix of Gil Scott-Heron’s 2010 comeback album, I’m New Here (his first release since 1994’s Spirits). If the legendary 70s spoken word performer's name doesn’t ring a bell, his 1971 song “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” might jolt the memory bank. This year, the album’s most buzzed about single, “New York is Killing Me,” was remixed with verses from New York natives Mos Def and Nas, and Heron’s 1970 track, “Comment #1,” was sampled on Kanye West's “Lost in the World," featuring Bon Iver, on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
0diggsdigg News of Smith’s collaboration with Heron has been gaining steam for months now, and the XL Recordings label-mates have been spotted together at shows since November 2009, though they have yet to actually perform together.
