John Galliano Designs Christmas Tree for Claridge’s Hotel

It's officially that time of year when you work off last week's gravy grease, bitch about how little you accomplished in 2010, and hire a famous fashion designer to decorate your Christmas tree. Well, maybe one out of three. At least the latter is true for Claridge's hotel in London. The posh hotel is obsessed with fashion, obvious to anyone keeping tabs on the industry guests who stay there and the fact Diane von Furstenberg designed twenty of their rooms this past summer. For the second year in a row, Claridge's has appointed John Galliano to give his magic touch to their lobby's fancy evergreen.

Unveiled last Thursday, the tree is made of sparkling silver leaves, pink coral, sea horses, fish, anemones, starfish, and jellyfish. Clearly Galliano’s inspiration came from the ocean, but let’s hope he had the Pacific in mind. Otherwise, you’d most likely find strips of tar, blotches of spilled oil, and a bunch of oil-stained bird ornaments. Thankfully this tree is on display at a sophisticated hotel and not an art gallery in East London.

The tree is on display until January 5th, 2011.
