Your DNA... on canvas

It’s the modern-day portrait. Instead of sitting in your natural habitat dressed in your Sunday best while an artist throws color onto canvas, you send a swab of your saliva to New York retailer Hammacher Schlemmer (www.hammacher.com). They’ll produce a painting – a giclée, actually – of your DNA, “allowing you to prove, once and for all, that your existence is truly unprecedented.”
Known for “offering the best, the only and the unexpected for 162 years,” Hammacher Schlemmer will send you a kit with instructions so that you can submit your DNA sample for agarose gel electrophoresis testing at a certified laboratory. It’s the same genetic fingerprinting technique used by forensic scientists. The final “work of art” is a larger reproduction of the DNA images used in crime labs.
