Four African American Men in Venice:
No Cross, No Crown
Kevin Sampson and three other African
American self-taught artists—Lonnie Holley,
Mr. Imagination, and Charlie Lucas—were
invited to create site-specific installations
in Venice in conjunction with the 2011
Biennale. Sampson will relate his experience
of the artists’ adventurous and life-
changing three-week residency and offer
insight into this groundbreaking artistic
presentation. Sampson will also show
images of his work, past and present.
