Serbia wins UniCredit Venice Award

Serbian artist Dragoljub Raša Todosijević was the recipient of the 150,000 euros UniCredit Venice Award. The artist received the prize on June 3 at Palazzo Grassi, in the presence of Gianni Franco Papa (Head of CEE Division UniCredit), Jean Claude Mosconi (Head of Artistic and Cultural Advisory UniCredit), and Walter Guadagnini (President of the Scientific Commission of UniCredit per l'arte).

The jury, which included Walter Guadagnini, Luca Massimo Barbero, Lorand Hegyi, Angelika Nollert, justified their decision by referring to the depth of the historical vision and ideological battles displayed in the artist's work. The jury described the artist's practice as critical in regards to the Balkan history and politics. The installation displayed in the pavilion was received as "coherent, and involving retrospective elements with recent works, making the work an evolution."

The project will become part of the UniCredit Collection, and will be lent to a major museum of contemporary art in Serbia for an extended period of time.

The other participants were Croatia, Estonia, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Turkey, Hungary.
