Boy's Tongue Stuck to Frozen Pole After 'Christmas Story' Dare
Jan 12, 2011 – 3:11 PM
You've seen this scene before -- every Christmas.
An 8-year-old Oklahoma boy got his tongue stuck on a frozen stop sign pole after his brother dared him to lick it.
"The first thing that come to my mind was the movie 'A Christmas Story,'" responding Woodward firefighter Shane Pringry said, according to News Channel 4 in Oklahoma City.
The boy was standing on his tiptoes when rescue crews arrived on the scene, near Woodward Middle School. He was trying to wiggle his tongue free.
"He had a large portion of his tongue frozen to the pole," Pringry said.
Firefighters poured water over his tongue to help free the boy. Apparently, the boy had risen to the challenge from his older brother while they were waiting for the school bus.
"I just heard a kid screaming, but I just figured they were kids goofing off," neighbor Joellen Powell said. "It woke me up."
