NEWARK — Two people were killed and a third was injured during a bloody 13 hours in Newark's South Ward today.

Dominik Smith, 19, was pronounced dead after being shot around 6:39 a.m. in a hallway at an apartment complex on Church Terrace near where he lived, said police spokeswoman Detective Josephine Santaniello.

A little more than 12 hours later, two men were shot on Aldine Street, police said. The unidentified victims were driven by civilians to Beth Israel Hospital in Newark, where one died a short time later, said police spokesman Hubert Henderson.

Wednesday's slayings were Newark's 79th and 80th of the year, matching the total number of homicides the city suffered last year.

Police have not identified a motive nor a suspect in either shooting. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the Department's 24-hour "Crime Stoppers" anonymous tip line at 877 NWK-TIPS (877 695-8477) or NWK-GUNS (877 695-4867).
