A new comedic play written by Julie Amparano and presented by Arizona Women’s Theatre Company and New Carpa Theatre Company starts this month in downtown Phoenix. Directed by Pamela Sterling, “A Mother’s Will” centers on Mary and her eclectic kin: her borracho husband Miguel, her daughter Rachel, the muppie (Mexican-American yuppie) doctor who is repulsed by her own sister Annette, “a super-Chicana-wannabe channeling Frida Kahlo,” and their closeted gay brother Mike.
“A Mother’s Will” will hit the stage March 5–14, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m., at the Playhouse in the Park, 1850 N. Central Avenue, in the Viad Tower at Palm and Central Avenues. Tickets are $18, $12 for students with ID. Take advantage of $3 off each ticket by calling the box office at 602-254-2151 and mention the discount ticket code “Miguel.”
