THE first Academy Awards banquet, held on May 16, 1929, and honoring films released between Aug. 1, 1927, and July 31, 1928, included a special award to Warner Brothers “for producing ‘The Jazz Singer,’ the pioneering outstanding talking picture, which has revolutionized the industry.”
