Kevin survey of the republican mind set

I have been doing my own fact finding mission

Trying to discover

how and why

there are still two distinctly different Americas

At least in the minds eye of

a republican vs. Democrat

or the very poor

Who have no choice

I have been running my mouth

trying to find why the right wing

has these perceptions

What I figured out is that it is fired up by fear

Fear of change

Fear of poor people

People of color

And most of all a fear of

losing the America

 

 

that exist in their own heads

I spoke to a friend who is a white pharmacist

at a drug store that I frequent

I spoke to the Portuguese man

who owns a liquor store

while chatting away with this guy

in walked a Portuguese business man

Who goes to Africa a lot

He spends a lot of time in Angola

He asked me was

I African

I told him I was African American

What does that mean

You are not African

No I am African American

Ok he laughed

Then he said some thing else

While my blood started to boil

He went on to ask me why black Americans

Always mention slavery

Africa isn't about slavery he said

He said he loves Africa

It's a beautiful place

Although Africans are just starting

To do business with the Portuguese again

He said that people concentrate on slavery too much

Instead of the beauty of Africa

Ok I had had it

Look my man

You are Portuguese right

You people were the biggest slavers in the universe

And you have the nerve to lecture me on slavery

I am a product of slavery

A African American

My history and its slavery are like no other in the world

And its effects are long lasting

Possibly permanent

Slavery still scars me

My man

And Africa

A beautiful place

For sure

But lets not forget the years of colonization

That your people and others inflicted on Africa

Lets not forget your part

And of course

Let not forget how many woman

Are being raped in Africa as we speak

Hell they are even raping men in the Congo

As we speak

What they hell are you talking about

Africa is blowing up with aids, and the Sudan

And poverty and ill horrible treatment of woman

From female circumcision

To child slavery

Children soldiers

Terrorist

Dictators

Death

Death and more death

The Sudan

What the hell are you talking about

Man this guy took me back to the slave ships

With his elitist attitude

And I start to cry

And people and their perceptions of it

Are simply crazy

Sorry I ranted about this

But as you can see

Insanity racism is a universal thing

Anyway where was I

I went and spoke to a white guy that owns a gas station

Even a semi homeless white guy,

Who, used to be suburban guy

They all came at me

about the health care debate

They all used the same catch phrases

Socialism

We are giving America away

The Mexicans are taking over

We are turning America over to Nancy Pelosi

What I found was that these people

listen to the radio'

Watch fox news

And don't do any research

beyond what they are fed

By the right wing media outlets

They believe in the death panels

They believe that Obama isn't really American

They believe that Jews are running the country

Jews teaming up with nigga's

And communist

I was astounded by what I heard

By the nature of these people thoughts

And most of all disturbed

Because these are all good people

In their own way

Meaning they work,

mind their business and try not to hurt others

unless it comes out of what their perceive as their pockets

these folks really believe that they are America

But they just cant see the racist nature

of their comments and beliefs

They really don't get it

Their perception of America

Africa

And the world

Is so different than mine

So uninformed

Prejudice and self serving

These folks are convinced that the poor are lazy

That health care should be given only to those who own something

They believe that because they pay taxes

They are privileged

And many of these same folks

Hate the government

They believe the government is the enemy

on one hand

They trust the government to kill

But not to heal

Yes there are two Americas

And thank god

I live in the other one

The one that wants to help all people

The one that wants health care for all

The one that the government

protects nurtures

and helps Its citizens

to reach the American dream

Or at least have a shot at it

No this is not America now

But it is as America could be

But only if we are truthful

Anyway I am stunned that people

don't believe in the government

But do believe in rush,

and fox news and sara

What a messed up picture this is
