A true story Its about cops and people and me and mine

Let me tell you a story

of why I have come to love this neighborhood

Its about cops and people and me and mine

I have a adopted son James, yes he is crazy….. but a short while ago

He was semi sane

About three years ago, he was coming back home after a night out with his girlfriend

He was attending the fashion institute of tech, in new York

He was about 24 years old, and walking home 930 am in the morning

Anyway he said that a car followed him all the way from the train station

Now let me be honest here

He thought that this was a stalker, there are white business men

Who pick up the male hustlers who hang around the train station

In Newark,

Newark is the home of a lot of this anyway

He thought he was being followed as has happened in the past

When he got to the front door of our house

A guy dressed in black got out of the car

This guy asked him what are you doing in this neighborhood

James said I live here

Leave me the fuck alone

When he tried to get into the door

He was coming upstairs to get me

The guy grabbed him

And started pushing him

Yelling questions at him

James pushed the guy back

And when he did

The guys jacket came open

And he could see a badge

The guy was a Newark cop

A off duty cop

Anyway James ran up stairs

The guy stayed downstairs

James came and woke me up and said a cop had just hit him down stairs

Anyway by the time I got to my front steps

It was loaded with cops

Their was a big young cop at the top of the steps

I confronted them

I said look I am a ex cop

What the hell is the problem

The young cop looked at me and said

You better get the fuck out of the way

Before I lock your ass up

Cop or not

I batted my beautiful eyes

And said what

You aint locking shit up

Rookie

You couldn't lock me up if you tried

Anyway a sergeant pushed past me

And said the was there to lock James up for assault

On a police officer

I said what where is the cop

I now had at leave 15 cops in my house

Motorcycle cops, woman cops

Serpents and a lt.

The sergeant had a cool head

In the mean time James was crying in the back ground yelling

At the cops and acting like a general fool

The big white cop keep glaring at me

Mumbling

Finally I had had enough

Look I am a ex cop

If that fat fuck threatens me one

More time it is on

In the mean time

Crazy James is yelling

To call my brother Ronnie

Who was alive then

And one of the best criminal defense lawyers in Newark

They knew my brother

The sergeant sent some of the cops out to get restraints

I said you aint locking no one up

You have a off duty cop

Who stopped a Puerto Rican black kid

In front of his house

They were still trying to get to James

I placed myself in the way

Fuck it

Its on

I told them guess what

I am a highly decorated ex cop

A famous artist whose brother will sue you to the high heavens

In the mean time

We could hear people gathering outside

Their must have been 15 of my neighbors

Outside

All Portuguese

When they heard that they were going to lock up James

They tried to get into my house

They started shouting at the cops

We saw what you did to that kid

He didn't do any thing

We will testify against you

The leader of the pack

Was a old Portuguese man

Who is a fixture in my neighborhood

He has one good leg

The other was removed

He was waving his crutches

Shouting in broken English

We saw your you bastards we saw what you did

Now the cops changed their tunes

The sergeant came over to me

Looked at the young asshole cop

Who had assaulted James

And said

Man what a mess

What did you do

He pulled me to the side and said

Brother officer

We are sorry

We will forget this whole thing

Lets just forget this

The 15 cops

Backed out of my house

To the shouts of my neighbors

All white neighbors

The slunk away

I will always love and protect any one on my block because of this

We stand as a community

We always don't get along

We are different in customs and color

But they know I always look out for them

The cop in me watches over them

When they close their stores

When their wives walk to their cars

And they know this

I was proud on this day

To live in ironbound

So don't tell me about cops

And how they act

Cops are not always right

I have known cops who were some of the smartest

Bravest people I ever knew

But there are lots of cops

Who wear the uniform

To bolster their manhood

To payback bullies

And people of color

Who annoyed them some how

I don't care if gates is a arrogant fool

He like me

Just got tired of it

Some times

You just have to say enough

Enough I am too old and mean

To be messed with

And the older I get the meaner I get

On this day I was ready to fight my brother cops

They were simply wrong and racist

But there are two sides of every thing

The cop that stopped James was Portuguese

And the people that stopped them

Were Portuguese

So some times live

And justice is blind

So you tell me………………

What you think
