(B.LUV) Hip Hop lawyer Paul Bergrin, whose client list include Lil Kim and Queen Latifah, was reportedly arrested and charged with murder and conspiring to murder a witness in a drug case this week. The attorney was officially charged Wednesday (May 20) afternoon.A defense attorney and former federal prosecutor was charged Wednesday with arranging the killing of one witness and trying to hire a hit man to kill another. Bergrin is accused of murder and conspiracy to commit murder in a 14-count federal indictment. Four others also are named in the indictment, including Bergrin's fellow attorney, Thomas Moran. The others face charges including racketeering, wire fraud and conspiracy in what prosecutors characterized as a criminal enterprise that also engaged in witness tampering, money laundering and drug trafficking. (Associated Press)Bergrin is reportedly heard on tape requesting the assassination of an Illinois resident. The attorney was indicted in the five-year-old murder by a grand jury in Newark, New Jersey. He was charged in the death of an informant who was preparing to testify against a client. He was also accused of trying to hire a Chicago hit man to kill a witness in another federal drug case. The assassin recorded their conversations and is cooperating in the case, prosecutors said. If convicted, Bergrin faces the death penalty or a mandatory sentence of life in prison. (Bloomberg) U.S. Attorney Ralph Marra has spoken on the case."The conduct alleged is simply shocking," said Marra, the acting New Jersey U.S. attorney on Bergin. "A licensed lawyer, a former prosecutor, essentially became one of the criminals he represents." (New York Daily News)Bergin is known for representing hip-hop stars.Bergrin has represented Lil Kim Queen Latifah and other rap stars. He also represented Sgt. Javal S. Davis, a New Jersey soldier who served about four months in a military prison in 2005 for mistreating Iraqi prisoners at the Abu Ghraib prison. (Brooklyn Eagle)
