I had to post this email that was sent by my sister Donna to members of my family.
My Cousin Darrolyn who is a Doctor and having health issues of her own. Has been tending to the elderly part of the family. She has been cleaning out apartments, ministering to the sick as Doctor and as a family member.
She is a bit overwhelmed because we have reached a point where many of our Uncles and Aunts are elderly and in need of love and care.
So she just wrote a letter in her nice way to tell us to get off our asses and be family.
My family for the first time is scattered all over the country.
The meeting place the only one we have is Gran Ruby's in Pa. Now let me tell you about Gran Ruby my stepmother in the legal sense, my mother, my mentor my friend in many in the actual sense.
Gran ruby after the death of my father has become the head of the family.
All of my cousins siblings and the like meet at her home in pa for all holidays
I am babbling
The reason i am posting this letter that my sister wrote
and mentoring this private thing
is in a effort to tell every one how important it is to care
about each other
its a reminder to myself of how much i have been remiss in taking care of people outside of my world
oh i take care of plenty of folks
but there are corrections
and my sister just pointed out a few
so this is a public promise to do better
and to help more and more people
the e world is hurting
and its up to all of us
to give
below is Donna's beautiful letter that as usual
puts every thing in proper context.
but Donna is project manager
and she is doing what she does
manage
sister Donna, Niece Ashley and Youngest Brother Rob
God love her
Donnas letter below
Grab Kevin. He is there and wonderful in the craziness and chaos of life. He will make everyone laugh and cry. He remembers. Kevin will also be the one to document this transition in our lives. He has a huge heart capable of holding the entire world.
We all have roles determined so long ago. Kevin is the renegad, the artist and the survivor. He has been through more madness and has used it in his art, in his life -- it is what motivates him to keep going and what sometimes overwhelms him. He was also the one that was always around. Rob is the one that no one every knew. He was the observer of the noise and chaos. But he has the ability to make stuff happen. He is funny and demanding and loving. Most of all Rob is of the mind. He knows. I am the one always off on the side -- living my life, touching in every now and then, watching from afar. I am the groundstone for those who make the journey. I take control of my domain -- its just not a domain where everyone is allowed to enter. Darrolyn was always the care giver -- taking care of the world, the family, somewhat reluctantly but there just the same. Looking longingly at something else. Like George Bailey. Thinking that is necessary to be somewhere else -- but in the end it's a wonderful life.
Most of those roles and labels are just the surface stuff. Every family creates places for everyone. The sad thing is how difficult it is to redefine our roles. Other folks want us to stay in those roles and places -- even after they've become antiquated and useless. Sometimes it's just necessary to ask people to step outside of the roles that we all hold. Be someone else -- or be who they are in another life.
Life's changes are not a burden. It's what happens to us all. Enjoy the energy, love and light that familyprovides. Planning for the changes would help. Having someone to step in to help out is priceless.
Everyone appreciates the caretakers But sometimes the caretakers need to find a caretaker.
love, light, peace, happiness, truth, courage, honor, harmony, hope, faith, purpose, passion, knowing, holding with both hands, searching, believing, family, family as friends, friends as family, roles, purpose, mission, letting go, letting GOD
