Obama's name....... black folks are saying the name with power

dashiki

Every time i think about my father and brother
and Obama
i just keep on crying
keep on praying
and chanting
this election has driven me
back into the arms of my ancestors
its amazing
and you should see how this has transfixed Newark new jersey
people are yelling out
Obama's name
black folks are saying the name
with power
with power
as if saying it redefines them
can  you can understand what i am saying
its as if black power
has been reborn again
and black people are speaking
word to truth
in uttering this name Obama
Obama
and if i run into any of the older
black men or woman that i know
in the food store
or on the streets
all of them
just start tearing up
i have never seen it like this
i want to find my dashiki and wear it for my father
i want to wear it this time
not as a sub text of America
but as a real part of it
we are now the heartland
and the home land
and  this heart that was worn
is now simply warm
their is a power in the way black people
say the word Obama
it frees them
some how
empowers them
some how
defines them
now as a people we have to take this in to ourselves
and cleanses ourselves with it
this word
Obama
lets use Obama
yes use him
to purify ourselves
to strip some of the baggage of slavery away
we all
each one of us
from the baggy pants wearing home boys
to the black folks in the ivory
tower now
have a obligation to represent
to represent
i remember Dr Dison
saying that every time he goes into a restaurant
that insn.t black
that he brings with him all of his people
that he acts and shows the world what black people are
or can be
we now have a new word
Obama to take with us
our  new obligation
is to take this chant
Obama
into our hearts
and wear it with pride
its ok
to have some weariness
but lets try some thing new
lets try  pride without anger
and see how this works
let take the chips off our shoulders
just for a time.............
lets
use this to teach our children
what we are and can be
i am inspired
i cant wait to get into the classrooms
My first class when i return to school
and we have been off
is on Obama's life story
i want my south American students
to think yes we can
we came here illegally
we came here with hardship in our hearts
but we are Americans now
and some day i too can sing it
yes we can
i want those little black girls
and i cant stop thinking about those
little girls in Alabama
little girls lets  draw pictures of Michelle Obama
and  cast out the images of the hochies
that they we did  admire
lets  replace it with
yes we can
and i want the school's
and its  teachers to look at me different
not to be so scared of this old black guy
to see me and us
as who we are
Americans
do you see me
really see me
yes we can
i am inspired
i have been preaching
preaching since the election
yes we can
and my tears wont stop
and i don't want them too either
they make me know
i am alive
and well
and healing
