Cafferty: Obama: Race a factor?
From CNN's Jack Cafferty
"Race is arguably the biggest issue in this election, and it’s one that nobody’s talking about.
The differences between Barack Obama and John McCain couldn’t be more well-defined. Obama wants to change Washington. McCain is a part of Washington and a part of the Bush legacy. Yet the polls remain close. Doesn’t make sense…unless it’s race.
Time magazine’s Michael Grunwald says race is the elephant in the room. He says Barack Obama needs to tread lightly as he fights back against the McCain-Palin campaign attacks.
He writes, “Over the past 18 months, Obama has been attacked as a naive novice, an empty suit, a tax-and-spend liberal, an arugula-grazing élitist and a corrupt ward heeler, but the only attacks that clearly stung him involved the Rev. Jeremiah Wright - attacks that portrayed him as an angry black man under the influence of an even angrier black man.”
The angry black man, he goes on to say, doesn’t have broad appeal in White America. And even though the makeup of our population is changing, whites are still the majority in this country. How ironic that the giant step forward of nominating an African American for president may ultimately keep us mired in the past."
Duh
I said this over a year ago, its so typical of America to play the same race game again and again,
To pretend its all ok
that we have grown and matured enough as a country, to elect a Black man or a woman for that case, to the office of the Presidency.
We obviously haven't.
Obama is caught between a rock and a hard place
like so many black males before him.
It just shows that no matter how high you rise in this country, that you still have
to play the game. Slave codes are still as evident today as they were years ago.
Ok there are lots of whites that do believe
but these were probably ancestors of the folks that were a part of the underground railroad.
descendants of John Brown,
descendents of those that marched and died
right along side my folks
but the rest, come on
America is still mired down in silly stuff
family values
what the hell is that to be talking about.
abortion rights,
Patriotism,
fiddling away while Rome Burns
But Man it has been an amazing exp to watch the young folks in my city Newark New jersey, get involved.
from Gang bangers, to students to the common poor kid in the streets.
they are singing out Obama's name
They are just so Damn proud and full of hope,
America
if you break there hearts again
break their hearts
like you do every day
with your neglect and indifference
with your,
jails and bad schools
lack of jobs.
You will reap the what you sow
I cant remember another time like this
not since the 1970's
I easily predicted what would happen
that America would stay America
and would show its racist face
to the world once more
I predicted
that the glow of Obama would wear off
and Americans would again show the world
how silly and scared we really are of change
and man this isn't just about race
How could you seriously elect McCain
and that Sarah what's her name
she is the Clarence Thomas of the woman's movement
cant we find a Anita hill just for her
Sarah your voice drives me to distraction
and yes I will talk about how she looks
if I read one more article about her hair
that woman is wearing a damn beehive
what the hell is wrong with folks
anyway
America would watch the country go
down in financial ruin, just to stop a black man from taking its highest office
that is a hell of a statement
So America
cut off your nose to spite your face America
typical
If Obama loses
I will not only be devastated
but angry
and listen to me on this one
I am not in any way advocating violence
but
if Obama loses
watch the streets in the inner city's
watch them closely
because people of color and our higher minded friends are going to be pissed
and the world will click its tongue
and like Katrina
the whole world will again see
what America really thinks of them
how can America lead the world
advocate democracy destroy
blow up country's like Iraq
and then went it is time
for it to step up
it takes a turn back into the wind
that will drive it into the past
I agree with Jack
I like angry old men like myself
me and jack could easily sit on a bench
drinking sweet tea
and tossing peanut shells at passing
pedestrians
You Go jack
call America
out Shame on you
shame on us all
