An unfortunate report released this afternoon confirms R&B artist Mario was charged with assaulting his mother. The 24 year-old singer was arrested this morning following the incident at a Baltimore apartment he and his mother shares.
According to the Baltimore Sun, Mario's mother, Shawntia Hardaway has been struggling with heroin addiction for years.
In 2007, Mario opened up in a MTV documentary, "I Won't Love You to Death: The Story of Mario and His Mom." The special revealed that for most of his life, Mario has been trying to save his mother's life from drugs. Before the air date on November 27, 2007, Mario spoke to The Associated Press about his mother, "She was addicted to heroin most of her life. She's clean now."
But from the reports, it seems, Mario's mother is back on drugs. No confirmation on if the incident has to do with Hardaway's addition.
Hardaway alleged Mario pushed her and had been "throwing and damaging property."
A spokesperson for the Baltimore police describes the assault in detail. "He allegedly shoved his mother against the wall, she hit her head, it looks like he then became verbally abusive. She feared for her safety, and police were contacted."
The report also states Mario's mother told the police he attacked her earlier this week.
Mario was arrested and has now been released on a $50,000 bond.
A hearing for the assault case is scheduled for November 9.
