Midtown Lunch - Finding Lunch in the Food Wasteland of NYC's Midtown Manhattan

Your First Look at Ma Peche’s New Sandwiches

_MG_3714 - Version 2

Despite being quite fond of pretty much all of David Chang’s Momofuku ventures, I find that I rarely take the trouble to head to the East Village or fight a damned web site to go to any of them. When Ma Peche (aka MomoMidtown) first opened, I was psyched to have them in Midtown, but being 20 blocks away, I never quite managed to check it out. And then I heard about the new sandwich additions to the lunch menu. Hello excuse for a subway-ride lunch!

In fact, it was a good excuse for two back-to-back subway-ride lunches. This week I stopped in two days in a row to try out their new Shrimp Po’ Boy and the Beef Sausage sandwich (and discovered a new happy hour special at the bar!) Check ‘em out after the jump.

Sami Dosa Cart Pops Up Again on B’way

Thanks to @cardamond for pointing this one out on Twitter… Sami’s Dosa cart, which popped up on Broadway and 55th across from the Letterman theater before promptly disappearing again, has appeared on Broadway and 39th. The tipster said that it took awhile for his food, but the onion chilly dosa was yummy. We might have to do a dosa showdown between this cart and the other dosa cart, parked just one block away (on 39th and 6th).

Get 50% off FIKA: It's been awhile since we mentioned FIKA Swedish Espresso Bar (on 58th btw. 5+6th) but if you're a fan (meatball sandwich FTW!) you'll want to take advantage of this: Get 50% off your order (up to a $13 discount) at FIKA with this free coupon from Scoutmob. The deal is only good at the Midtown location, and you have to sign up for it before tonight at Midnight.

Free Scharffen Berger Cupcakes Are Totally Worth Seeking Out

Scharffen Berger Truck

Earlier this week we brought you the news that Street Sweets is partnering a number of businesses and bringing free treats to the streets on three different trucks. Yesterday I caught up with Truck #3 (aka the Scharffen Berger Chocolate Adventure wrapped truck) and I have to say, the free chocolate cupcake alone makes it worth checking out.

Cheesesteak Deal: I think once the New York Daily News gets into the daily deals email game it's safe to say this is getting out of control! Or we can just keep our mouths shut, and continue taking advantage of all this cheap food. Today's offer is 50% off Shorty's, the Philly cheesesteak spot on 9th Ave (btw 41+42nd). Just an FYI, you have to purchase the deal before tonight at Midnight.

SE Corner of 53rd & 6th Finally Comes Into Its Own

DSC09109DSC09105

Totally forgot to post this last week… when I was back in Midtown a few weeks ago I saw something I had never seen before in all the years I worked in Midtown. The lunchtime Famous Halal Guys Cart on the SE Corner of 53rd and 6th had a longer line than the “Imposter” Cart on the SW corner of 53rd and 6th. Even though the imposters proved themselves to be a delicious street food option in Street Meat Palooza 3, they still can’t deny that they are trying to trick people into thinking they are the same cart as the super famous cart that parks in that spot at night (they have even added logos to their yellow sweaters!) It makes me a tear up a bit to see that people are finally getting the message, and lining up on the SE corner in greater numbers. Now we have to get the word out to those people that the line-less cart on the NW corner of 52nd and 6th serves the exact same food as the famous cart on 53rd, with no wait! (Our work is never done…)
