First lady Michelle Obama will begin campaigning for Democratic candidates beginning in October, White House aides tell POLITICO.
It is unclear how many events at which the first lady will appear, what she’ll say or whom exactly she'll campaign for. White House aides say they are still ironing out the logistics and will announce which candidates made the cut in the next few weeks. But a White House aide said it’s certain: the highly popular first lady “won't be the mudslinger” on the campaign trail.

“She's not going to be out there taking swings at people," the aide said. "She's going to be a positive messenger in support of a candidate."
Now that summer has ended and daughters Malia and Sasha are back in school, Obama’s schedule has been packed. In coming days, she’ll appear at a string of events to promote her project to fight childhood obesity, she’ll speak at the Clinton Global Initiative in New York and she will accompany President Barack Obama to a convening of the United Nations General Assembly, but she won't campaign before then, aides say.
At least one candidate may get his wish to have Obama appear with him on the stump: Rep. Joe Sestak, (D-Pa.) who is trailing Republican nominee Pat Toomey in their race for Pennsylvania’s open Senate seat.
In July, Sestak told reporters that, rather than the president, the first lady is "my Number One choice" as a White House surrogate. On Monday, a Sestak aide said an appearance by the first lady seemed likely, though the White House said they have not settled on her campaign schedule.
“I expect that we can work something out depending on her schedule and Joe would be honored if it happens,” the Sestak aide said.
The president will headline a fundraiser for Sestak next week, and Vice President Joe Biden will campaign for him Monday night.
