LINCOLN PARK -- A Newark teenager was caught with marijuana in Lincoln Park's municipal court Wednesday as he emptied his pockets to pass through a metal detector, police said today.

Jerome M. Polite, 19, was arrested around 6 p.m. Wednesday as he accompanied a friend, police said.

While passing through the detector, he placed a plastic container carrying a bag of marijuana into a bin supplied for metal objects, police said.

Lincoln Park Police Sgt. Michael Runfeldt said Polite tried to grab the container when police realized what was in it.

Polite was charged with possession of marijuana and brought back to the court for his first hearing.

Police also learned that Polite had two outstanding warrants totaling $679. Unable to post bail, he was turned over to Irvington police, Runfeldt said.
