CITY-WIDE PROGRAM LAUNCHED: CITY MURALS

"City Murals,” a new community-based program that integrates public art with youth employment and training, is now underway at two downtown locations in Newark, New Jersey, through a partnership among City Without Walls (cWOW), the City of Newark, Groundswell Community Mural Program, and Rutgers University –Transitional Education and Employment Management (TEEM) Gateway. Commissioned professional artists will create two murals alongside twenty Newark youth being trained during a summer employment program from July to August, 2009. This is the first phase of a citywide mural program that will continue to create public art in the Fall of 2009 and beyond. According to cWOW Executive Director Ben Goldman, “City Murals is a public art program that shows how urban youth can be made ready for the world of work." To see full program description read here.
